Dave & Buster's At Great Mall In Milpitas Warning Customers About Measles Exposure On MLK Day
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) — Santa Clara health officials are warning people who visited a popular restaurant in Milpitas over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday that they may have been exposed to the measles virus.
Warning notices have gone up at the Dave and Buster's restaurant in the city's Great Mall. According to the warning, anyone who was in the restaurant on Monday, January 19th between 6 and 10 p.m. may have been exposed.
Officials with the County Health Department said that one of two people in the county, who they confirm had the measles, visited not only the restaurant, but the Costco and Walmart stores in Gilroy. Similar notices went up at those businesses over the weekend.
As a precaution, people who may have been exposed are being asked to check their vaccination status and to watch for symptoms through February 9th. Those include fever, cough, runny nose, a rash and red eyes. If you have any concerns, you're urged to contact your doctor.
Dr. Sara Cody, Santa Clara County County officer told KPIX 5, "If you've been vaccinated, nothing further to do."
Cody said she doesn't expect to see a large outbreak, because vaccination rates in the county are more than 95 percent.
"So this is just for that small subset of people who are not protected, we want them to know they may have been exposed, so they would know what symptoms to watch. And so that if they develop symptoms, they can alert their physicians," Cody said.
In all, there are 78 confirmed cases, 68 in California, and nine here in the Bay Area. Much of these illnesses stem from an initial exposure at Disneyland in late December.
