'Measles May Be Circulating Undetected' Warn Santa Clara County Officials

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Santa Clara County is trying to get out ahead of the measles outbreak in the state.

County officials partnered with the Department of Education to send out a notice recommending that residents get vaccinated.

"In Santa Clara County, we now have two confirmed cases of measles, both in adults, but no indication of any links to Disneyland. This means that measles may be circulating undetected in our community, although we don't know how widely," reads the letter.

As of January 22, 59 people in California have been confirmed with measles since the beginning of the year, the majority of those have been liked to an outbreak originating at Disneyland in Anaheim.

In Alameda county, 30 children have been isolated over fear of exposure.

San Jose parents say they're pleased that the county is taking steps to inform people.

"What people do in their homes is up to them, but the school district is here to serve the entire community, and that's something that we need to know," said San Jose parent Likia Dawson.

The parents we talked to said kids were vaccinated and they would hope other parents do the same, indicating it's a personal choice with potentially serious consequences for others.
