Former California Congressman McCloskey To Speak On Memorial Day
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Marine and former Congressman Pete McCloskey is scheduled to give a Memorial Day address Monday morning in San Bruno at the Golden Gate National Cemetery.
Lee Houskeeper, of San Francisco Stories, said McCloskey's speech is relevant now, especially with the vast amount of military casualties and in the changing times of international warfare.
He said McCloskey, the first top Republican to oppose the Vietnam War and the man who ran against Richard Nixon on an anti-war platform for president, is sending a significant reminder with his speech Monday regarding the importance of rethinking war.
"I think that this is an important message to take a new look at national service," Houskeeper said Sunday morning.
The cemetery is located at 1300 Sneath Lane. The speech is scheduled for 11 a.m.
