Mayor Reed Drums Up Mineta San Jose Airport Business In Japan
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed was headed to Tokyo Wednesday to attract more business for Mineta San Jose International Airport and to deepen the Japan connection to Silicon Valley.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
He planned to meet with the CEO of All Nippon Airways to talk about establishing a San Jose-to-Tokyo flight.
"ANA is going to be taking delivery of some new aircraft, a Boeing 787, and they're looking for somewhere to put them, and we believe San Jose is that place," said Reed.
Reed said that Tokyo is at the top of a list on a survey of where Silicon Valley companies would like to have direct air service.
"Our Silicon Valley companies have many, many connections to Japan, and areas beyond Japan, so getting to Tokyo is something they do on a regular basis, and we need to help ANA capture this market," said Reed.
It's been more than a decade since American Airlines cancelled its San Jose-to-Tokyo route.
