Mayor Quan, Interim Police Chief To Unveil Oakland Anti-Crime Plan
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and newly-named interim Police Chief Howard Jordan are finalizing the details of a new, comprehensive crime-fighting plan.
Quan planned to unveil her ideas Saturday at a neighborhood safety summit at Laney College.
Ahead of the safety summit, Quan would only talk in general terms about efforts to improve public safety in Oakland, including maximizing the value of more than 60 police officers being added to the police department.
"Even with all of those additional forces, that's not enough for a city our size," she opined. "How can we be most effective?"
Jordan is credited with being one of the architects of the anti-crime plan being unveiled Saturday.
"Fighting crime and addressing public safety in Oakland involves much more than just injunctions and curfews and things like that," he said. "It's an holistic approach."

"Jordan's been working actually with Mayor Quan for some time on that, you know, to come up with a (crime-fighting) plan," confirmed KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier. "It's an interesting little side story on this, yes, he was the one who was working on this with the mayor."
"You might say, 'well why wasn't (recently-resigned chief Anthony) Batts?'" continued Matier. "I think it underscores something here and that is that Anthony Batts and Jean Quan really just didn't get along."
