Mayor Chuck Reed: 2011 Will Be A Good Year For San Jose
SAN JOSE (KCBS)- San Jose City Hall has been closed down for the rest of the year, and the focus now turns to 2011. From the city's standpoint, the most significant accomplishment of 2010 was gaining control of pension reform.
"I think 2010 will be seen as the year that we turned the corner on pension reform," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. "There's a lot of work still to be done, and we still have to negotiate with 11 unions as to what the nature of the second tier for new employees is going to be, but we clearly had the support of the voters of San Jose."
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
As he left City Hall for the last time this year, Reed told KCBS that the outlook for 2011 is much brighter.
"We're looking at net job growth here in the Valley year over year, and that's a big improvement over the negative numbers we've been seeing over the last couple of years," said Reed. "The job growth isn't real strong, but positive is so much better than negative, and that's a boost to our local economy."
