Massive 4-Alarm Industrial Fire In Stockton Spreads To Homes

STOCKTON (CBS SF) -- A massive 4-alarm fire that exploded at an industrial yard near downtown Stockton was brought under control Thursday evening.

The blaze started at about 5 p.m. outside a warehouse on Weber Avenue and B Street, north of Highway 4, when a pile of wooden pallets caught fire.

Gusty winds pushed embers from the blaze into neighboring homes. At least one home was destroyed and four others were damaged.

Dilina Rigmaiden, whose house was burned described a harrowing escape.

"The heat was in my face. My nephew couldn't even open his eyes because it was so hot ... and I just seen a gust of smoke and I didn't see my mom leave and I was worried that she died," Rigmaiden recalled.

Fortunately, her mother did make it to safety along with her dog, which chewed through a fence to escape the flames.

A big, black plume of smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
