Maserati Introduces Luxury SUV For Soccer Moms And Dads With Deep Pockets

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Move over Porsche and Ferrari, there's a new luxury sport utility vehicle coming down the block.

Maserati has unveiled its first SUV -- the Levante, in hopes of capturing the souls of soccer dads (and their wives) who crave a dose of Italian sport and elegance, and who are willing to pay top dollar for it.

The Italian automaker will officially debut the 'Maserati of SUVs' at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show.

In addition to some serious off-road credentials, the Levante boasts "sleek lines and sexy curves" according to the luxury lifestyle website Mocha Man Style. Like its high-end rivals, Maserati is promising the luxury and comfort of an SUV, with the ride of a high-performance sports car.

So far, the Levante will only be available in Europe when it comes out this Spring; the worldwide release will come later in the year.

All this luxury comes at a price. Levante may mean 'east' in Italian, but industry sources predict the base price on the Maserati Levante will be well 'north' of $80,000.
