Unbraked Parked Car In Martinez Rolls Into Gas Meter, Resulting In Brief Shelter-in-Place Order For Nearby Homes
MARTINEZ (CBS SF) -- A shelter-in-place order was lifted for Martinez residents in the area immediately surrounding an accident involving a gas leak Thursday morning, according to Contra Costa fire officials.
CHP Officer Eric Anderson reports the owner of a vehicle near the intersection of Vine Avenue and Sycamore Street failed to set a parking brake. This caused the vehicle to drift into a gas meter.
PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi says the vehicle sheared off the gas meter, which exposed the gas line and resulted in gas emissions.
PG&E crews were able to shut off the flow of gas at 7:30 a.m., and are now repairing the meter, Guidi says.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, and the roadway has been re-opened, according to Officer Anderson.
