Martinez Man Fatally Shot During Hunting Trip
MARIN COUNTY (CBS SF) -- A Martinez man who was on a hunting trip suffered a fatal gunshot wound while traveling in a car in Tomales Saturday afternoon, the Marin County coroner's office said.
Coroner's Lt. Keith Boyd said 58-year-old Richard William Weller was riding in a car with several others when a firearm discharged.
Marin County sheriff's deputies responded around 12:30 p.m. to the shooting that occurred in the area of 2849 Middle Road, a two-lane rural road, Boyd said.
Weller was pronounced dead at 1:16 p.m., Boyd said. An autopsy was under way this afternoon, Boyd said. The coroner's office and the Department of Fish and Wildlife Service are investigating the shooting.
Weller was a pile driver with C S Marin Constructors Inc. based in Vallejo, a company spokeswoman said. The company builds, repairs, demolishes and salvages piers and docks, according to its website.
