Suspect Identified In San Jose Sword Killing
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - San Jose resident Marquis Reynolds has been identified by police as the man arrested in connection with San Jose's 26th homicide of the year, the Monday stabbing of a homeless woman who may have been killed with a samurai-type sword.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was found on a sidewalk near the corner of West San Carlos Street and Meridian Avenue shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said. She had been stabbed at least once and died at the scene.
The weapon, which Officer Jose Garcia said looked similar to a samurai sword, was found next to the woman. Police are still determining whether the sword was used in the murder.
Police said Reynolds, 37, fled the scene on foot but was apprehended in the 2000 block of Beatrice Court, almost two miles away, by officers with canines. He was booked into jail on suspicion of homicide.
Police said they have not yet determined a motive for the stabbing.
In another deadly incident on Monday, 38-year-old Martin Chacon was found fatally shot in a parked Chevrolet Impala on Charles Street just west of Oakland Road around 1:40 p.m., police said.
A separate shooting also occurred in the 2300 block of Denair Avenue just after 4 p.m. that day, police said.
