Marin Men Have Nation's Highest Life Expectancy
SAN RAFAEL (CBS 5) - The key to living longer is apparently as simple as having an address in Marin County.
Men living north of the Golden Gate have the highest life expectancy in the nation at 81.6 years, according to a study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
Women in Marin have the second highest expected lifespan with an 85.1 year average, trailing only Collier County of Florida.
Researchers said that Marin rates are high because most residents don't smoke, are physically active and eat a healthy diet.
Men have an expected lifespan of over 80 years in both San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties - women had expectancies of more than 84 years. Residents of other Bay Area counties have slightly lower average life expectancies.
