CHP Seizes Trailer With 1,600 Pounds Of Marijuana In Sonoma County
CLOVERDALE (CBS SF) – The California Highway Patrol arrested a man in Sonoma County on Thursday for allegedly transporting more than three quarters of a ton of marijuana.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a K-9 unit pulled over a pickup and trailer on Highway 101 near Cloverdale around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The officer pulled over the pickup for tinted front windows.
During the traffic stop, authorities said the officer began to smell marijuana. The officer brought in the K-9 to search, and the dog alerted the officer about a suspicious odor in the trailer.
The CHP said when the officer opened the trailer doors, he found the trailer was filled with large black plastic bags with marijuana. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Christopher Porter, was arrested.
Following Porter's arrest, officers determined the bags contained 1,600 pounds of marijuana.
It is unclear when Porter would appear in court.
