Marijuana Grower Must Pay Santa Rosa Landlord Almost $13,000 In Back Rent
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A 23-year-old man was ordered to pay $12,614 in restitution to his former Santa Rosa landlord on Monday for lost rent after police uncovered an illegal marijuana grow operation there, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office.
Superior Court Judge Jamie Thistlethwaite ordered Zachary Cole of Sherman Oaks to pay the restitution for the time and work required to restore the rental property to livable condition after the marijuana grow was discovered, prosecutors said.
Cole's marijuana grow was discovered by Santa Rosa police, and Cole was convicted of a misdemeanor charge on July 25. The property owners had previously obtained a civil judgment for some damage to the home, but not the lost rent, prosecutors said.
