Manhunt After Burglar Tries To Break Into Several Sausalito Homes
SAUSALITO (CBS SF) -- Police are on the lookout for a burglar who got away with stolen property and tried to break into several Sausalito homes Friday morning, according to Sausalito police.
A Woodward Avenue resident saw a man on her rear deck around 6:50 a.m. The man told the resident he was looking for a friend's house and then quickly left the area, police said.
Officers arrived to the area and searched for the suspect for 90 minutes but did not find him.
During their search, officers discovered that the same suspect had tried to enter at least three other Woodward Avenue residences, targeting homes on the west side of the street between Easterby Street and Cazneau Avenue, police said.
At 11:28 a.m., another burglary was reported at a home in the area. The resident told police someone had broken in and taken about $6,000 worth of property, police said.
Police said the burglary appeared to be related to an earlier incident that went undiscovered until later that morning.
The suspect is described as an unkempt white man, about 20 years old wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, cut-off pants and combat boots, according to police.
Anyone with information about the burglaries and suspect is asked to call Sausalito police at (415) 289-4170.
