Man Wrongly Accused In Bryan Stow Beating Attends Dodgers Home Opener
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The most unexpected person attended the Dodgers home opener Tuesday — Giovanni Ramirez.
Ramirez was once considered the prime suspect in the Dodger Stadium beating in March 2011 that left San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow critically injured. In July, he was completely exonerated of having anything to do with the beating.
Ramirez did end up serving prison time for a parole violation.
Two men, Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood, are now accused of brutally beating Stow on Opening Day last year.
KCAL-TV reporter Dave Lopez caught up with Ramirez at the game, where he had box seats behind home plate, courtesy of his lawyers.
Ramirez said that he's never been to the ballpark before Tuesday, which was one of his biggest defenses against the beating allegations.
"Just wanted to come and know the place, know the place that caused all this ruckus," Ramirez said.
Ramirez couldn't help but notice the heavy police presence at the game. "I lost count," he said.
The tight security was among the Los Angeles Police Department's efforts to not have another fan-on-fan incident like last year.
Some people recognized Ramirez and asked for his autograph.
As for probation, Ramirez said that situation still had to be ironed out.
"Really don't know about all that right now. They're still figuring something out," Ramirez said.
He also didn't know if he would return to the stadium anytime soon.
