Man With Gun Arrested In Petaluma Road Rage Incident
PETALUMA (CBS SF) - A man suspected of brandishing a handgun during a road rage incident in Petaluma on Tuesday was arrested after briefly evading officers, police said.
The victim pulled into a parking lot in the 700 block of East Washington Street at about 4:20 p.m. and another driver followed him and confronted him, police said.
An argument ensued, and the victim told police that the other motorist then went to his car, grabbed a handgun and pointed it at the victim.
The suspect then spit on the victim and drove away, police said.
The victim called police to report the incident and gave them the suspect's license plate number.
An officer saw the suspect's vehicle speeding away from the scene and attempted to pull it over, but the driver wouldn't yield, police said.
The driver, later identified as 21-year-old Adam Benfarhat, was located a short time later in the 500 block of Laurel Street and taken into custody.
Police said a handgun and ammunition were found in the trunk of Benfarhat's car.
Benfarhat was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and evading a police officer. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.
