Man Tries To Abduct San Mateo Girl Outside Elementary School
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A police investigation is underway in San Mateo after a 9-year-old girl reported that a stranger tried to abduct her from an elementary school on Friday afternoon, according to police.
The young girl managed to safely escape the male suspect and reported the incident to staff members at Parkside Elementary School around 2:45 p.m., police said.
Police were immediately notified of the attempted abduction and are investigating the incident in collaboration with the San Mateo-Foster City School District.
The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s or 30s, standing approximately 6 feet tall with freckles and facial hair, police said.
Police are actively looking for the suspect and are aware of two similar incidents that occurred at schools in the nearby area on Friday.
Police said a stranger was escorted away from Horrall Elementary School and another report of a stranger offering alcohol to students from Bayside STEM Academy.
San Mateo police officers are keeping a close watch on playgrounds, parks, and other places children might gather. Police are urging parents to talk with their children about the dangers of strangers and what to do in an emergency.
Anyone with information about the incidents should notify the San Mateo police at (650) 533-7700.
