Man Struck & Killed By Caltrain In Belmont
BELMONT (CBS / AP / BCN) -- A man described as trespassing on
railroad tracks in Belmont was struck and killed Friday afternoon by a commuter train, causing widespread delays in the Caltrain system, officials said.
The pedestrian was hit by southbound Caltrain No. 256 as it came into the Belmont station around 3:10 p.m. Friday, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.
Dunn said one of two tracks through the area were closed, causing late afternoon and early evening delays of up to an hour while the incident was being investigated by the San Mateo County coroner's office.
She noted that trains in the area were only traveling at about 10 miles per hour on the northbound tracks.
Authorities were still trying to determine whether the death was a suicide or an accident, Dunn said.
She had no additional information about the man killed.
