Man Arrives Drunk At Corte Madera CHP Office, Gets Arrested For DUI
CORTE MADERA (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol arrested a Sausalito man for DUI Tuesday when he arrived drunk at the CHP's Corte Madera office to file an accident report for a collision that happened this past weekend.
Donald Gendron, 44, arrived at the lobby of the CHP office to report the weekend collision at about 9:15 a.m., CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.
Gendron, whose driver's license lists a Petaluma address, was filling out the accident report when officers noticed the smell of alcohol coming from the lobby, Barclay said.
There were four people in the lobby at the time, and a CHP officer detected the smell of alcohol on Gendron when he was questioning him about the accident, Barclay said.
Gendron's eyes were red and watery and he showed signs of intoxication, Barclay said. Gendron said he drove alone to the CHP office, and security cameras confirmed he arrived in a 2015 Ford Focus, Barclay said.
A second CHP officer determined Gendron was intoxicated, and Gendron was arrested for DUI and booked in the Marin County Jail.
The CHP will recommend Gendron also be charged with an enhancement of driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent or greater, Barclay said.
