Man Shot To Death As Son Watches Outside Oakland Supermarket
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - An Oakland man was shot and killed in front of his 6-year-old son during an attempted robbery, according to police.
Authorities said two men tried to rob 39-year-old Jose Esparza as he left a supermarket at 103rd Avenue and International Boulevard around 12:55 p.m. and that Esparza was shot when he resisted.

Officers found Esparza suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, Oakland police Officer Kevin McDonald said.
Relatives said that Esparza's son was in a nearby car and witnessed the shooting. The child was not harmed.
Esparza was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The death is the latest during a violent year for the city. His was the 78th homicide of 2011, compared to 59 at this same time last year.
Police have not identified any suspects in Sunday's shooting.
