Man Shot Dead During San Francisco Home Invasion Robbery

A San Francisco man was fatally shot and a younger male relative assaulted late Tuesday during an apparent home invasion robbery, police said Wednesday.

Officers were called at about 11 p.m. to a home in the 2000 block of Palou Avenue in the Bayview District, where the two men were attacked after two other men came to their front door, according to police.

Police spokesman Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said there was a verbal altercation and then shots were fired.

The medical examiner's office identified the shooting victim today as 57-year-old Dennis Dixon.

Dixon's relative was pistol-whipped during the encounter, police said. A woman and a 6-year-old child were also in the home at the time.

A neighbor who witnessed the attacks called 911, and police in the neighborhood responded quickly, Dangerfield said.

One of the suspects was taken into custody walking out the front door, and the other was arrested after running out the back door, according to Dangerfield.

"The cops did a hell of job responding to the 911 call, arriving quickly, apprehending the suspects, and probably saving the life of the other victim," Dangerfield said.

The suspects' names have not yet been released.

The shooting is San Francisco's 36th homicide this year. At the same time last year, there were 33 homicides.
