Man Sentenced For Burglarizing Home Of Dead Sonoma Family
SANTA ROSA (KCBS/BCN) - A San Mateo County man, who admitted to burglarizing the home of a Sonoma family that had just perished in a vehicle crash, was sentenced Friday to an eight-year term in prison.
27-year-old Michael Gutierrez was sentenced to six years in prison for the burglary and to two one-year terms for having served two prior prison sentences.
Gutierrez and co-defendant Amber True were convicted of breaking into the home of John and Susan Maloney last November.
The Maloneys and their two children were killed just two days earlier in a crash on state Highway 37 and Lakeville Road.
Gutierrez denied that he and the 30-year-old True knew the house was unoccupied because the family had just died in the crash.
True pleaded guilty to the same charges and faces a six-year prison term when she is sentenced later this month.
Gutierrez is also being prosecuted in Santa Clara County for burglarizing a home that was for sale and in San Mateo County for burglary, possession of a .32-caliber revolver and possession of a laptop stolen from a vehicle.
