Man Struck On San Francisco Highway Connector Had Been Shot In Leg
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man was shot in the leg some time before he was struck by a pickup truck early Thursday morning on a highway connector ramp in San Francisco, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The man was taken to a hospital but died there. His exact cause of death has not been determined and police are investigating the death as suspicious.
He was walking along the connector from westbound Interstate Highway 80 to the Central Freeway and northbound U.S. Highway 101 when he was hit by a gray 1997 Ford Ranger just after 5 a.m., CHP Officer Vu Williams said.
He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died a short time later. Doctors there discovered he was also suffering a gunshot wound to the leg, according to San Francisco police Officer Giselle Talkoff.
San Francisco police investigators responded to determine when and where the 42-year-old man had been shot. While they believe he had been shot before getting onto the highway, the exact location has not been determined, Talkoff said.
The pickup driver was heading to work at the time, Williams said. He stopped and cooperated with the investigation and was determined to not have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
