Man Killed In Crash While Fleeing Police In Vallejo
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A 25-year-old man was killed when he crashed his Lexus during a police chase in Vallejo on Tuesday night, authorities said.
Vallejo police Lt. Kenny Park said officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving 10 people and someone with a gun in the 200 block of Lofas Place around 10:15 p.m.
A car, described by the California Highway Patrol as a 1995 Lexus, was seen driving away from the scene and was chased by a Vallejo police officer, Park said.
The Lexus entered westbound Interstate Highway 80 and the driver failed to negotiate a curve on the transition ramp to Interstate Highway 780. The car crashed into a tree, killing the driver, Park said.
The Solano County coroner's office identified the driver today as 25-year-old Vallejo resident Joshua Lewis.
Lewis' passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was uncooperative and combative, and was bitten by a police dog as officers were trying to take him into custody, Park said.
He was treated at a hospital for injuries suffered in the crash and was then arrested for resisting arrest, according to police.
During the pursuit, either the driver or the passenger tossed a gun out of the Lexus, and police found body armor inside the vehicle, Park said.
