Man Jumps From Moving Car During Alleged Napa Kidnapping Attempt
NAPA (CBS SF) - Two men suspected of driving away with another man in the truck of their car were arrested after a short police pursuit in Napa Thursday afternoon, police said.
Napa police received reports of a fight at 3:25 p.m. in the 2100 block of Shurtleff Avenue that ended when two men forced another man in to the trunk of a green Ford sedan, police said.
Just after that police received a call that a man had jumped out of the trunk of a moving car on Soscol Avenue near Napa State Hospital. The victim ran through traffic and said he had been kidnapped.
Five minutes later police spotted a green Ford with two men inside and the trunk open driving south on state Highway 29. Officers attempted to stop it but the driver fled.
Eventually the suspects got off the highway and stopped in a vineyard near South Kelly and Paoli Loop roads.
Police arrested the car's two occupants, 49-year-old Donald Arthur Lawson and 36-year-old Daniel James Allen Rowe, both of Vallejo, on suspicion of evasion.
Lawson also had several warrants out of Napa and Solano counties, police said.
The kidnapping victim was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment of his injuries suffered from jumping out of the moving car. The severity of his injuries is not known.
