Man Held In Fatal Walnut Creek Crash Had Previous DUI Arrests
WALNUT CREEK (CBS / AP) -- Records show that a Walnut Creek man arrested after his pickup truck veered onto a sidewalk, killing a woman and seriously injuring another, had previous brushes with the law over his driving.
The Contra Costa County Times reports that Hossein Tabrizi was arrested twice in 2005 on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Ventura County Deputy District Attorney Kim Gibbons says in one of the cases Tabrizi was convicted and sentenced to five days and probation. The other case was dropped.
Department of Motor Vehicle records also show that Tabrizi's license was suspended in 2005 and in 2006. His license was reinstated in October 2009.
The 53-year-old Tabrizi was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after the Saturday crash in Walnut Creek, which killed 52-year-old Sherry Hicks and injured a second woman.
Walnut Creek have not said whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
