Man Gets Shot At Chasing Alleged Car Thieves In Antioch
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) - Shots were fired when a victim whose car was stolen last week confronted the alleged thieves in Antioch on Monday, police said.
On Monday afternoon, the victim spotted someone driving his car, which had been stolen on Thursday. The victim, who was in another vehicle, chased after his car until the two cars collided at Asilomar and Rock Island drives shortly after 4 p.m., police said.
The victim then confronted the occupants of his stolen car—a 25-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman. The man ran away, and when the victim started to chase him, the man fired several rounds into the air from a handgun, police said.
He then fled, running yard-to-yard and through several neighborhoods, police said.
By the time police arrived, the victim had detained the female suspect.
Officers tracked down the male suspect and arrested him. Police said he was found with a firearm and drug-related items.
Inside the stolen vehicle, police found property taken in a burglary that occurred earlier that day. The property was returned to its owner.
The two suspects were arrested on suspicion of auto theft and possession of stolen property. The woman was also booked on a probation violation charge.
The man was also arrested on suspicion of parole violation and weapon- and drug-related offenses.
