Police said the suspect vehicle pulled up and someone got out and fired onto the victim's vehicle, a Honda Civic. The victim was shot at least once.
As part of his response, the 35-year-old victim then drove over the ravine near the location of the shooting.
The Honda Civic was pulled from the scene, taken into police custody as part of their investigation as they try to gather evidence.
Oakland Police Sgt. Arturo Bautista said it's not an area known for violence.
"This area is not known for any drugs or shootings. It's pretty rare for something like that to happen up here," Bautista said.
Bautista said suspect information is limited and that police were not sure if there were one or two people in the suspect's car. They only know that it was dark in color, but don't have a make or model.
