Man found shot dead in South San Jose after crashing car into garage

A man who crashed his vehicle into a residence early Thursday morning in South San Jose had been fatally shot, according to police.

Police responded to multiple reports of a firearm discharged and a vehicle collision at 4:49 a.m. Thursday on the 5900 block of Liska Lane, near the Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center.

When police arrived, officers found a vehicle that crashed into the garage of a residence and had caught on fire. An adult male victim, was located in the driver seat of the vehicle. Police and fire department personnel extinguished the fire and removed the driver from inside the vehicle. 

Police said the driver appeared to be suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite life saving efforts by officers and medics, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation into the shooting, officers found a second victim, an adult female, who suffered from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries, that were later determined to be non-life threatening. 

The suspect fled prior to police arrival. This is San Jose's 18th homicide of 2024.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim's identity and notifying next of kin.
