Man Found Dead In Fairfield; Suspect Jailed

FAIRFIELD (BCN) - Police have made an arrest related to the suspicious death of a 44-year-old man whose body was discovered near an Interstate 80 on-ramp in Fairfield Tuesday afternoon.

It was the second time in as many days that a body was found in Fairfield, and police said that the man appears to have died as a result of injuries sustained during a fight.

The body found Tuesday by two local residents was in a lightly wooded open area between the westbound I-80 on-ramp from Waterman Boulevard and westbound I-80.

The residents notified emergency medical technicians with an ambulance parked at a nearby business of the body, and the ambulance crew then notified the California Highway Patrol.

Officers secured the scene and began a joint investigation with the Fairfield Police Department that continued into the night and resulted in the arrested of 37-year-old Brian Peck at about 11 p.m.

Peck was arrested on suspicion of homicide.

According to police, the unidentified man who was killed had been arrested numerous times for public drunkenness and camping in public locations.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning to confirm the cause of death, police said.

On Monday, a Fairfield Public Works Department employee discovered the body of 60-year-old Francisco Hernandez Cruz at Allan Witt Park.

An autopsy performed Monday on Cruz's body found no indication of foul play, according to the Solano County coroner's office.
