Man Found Dead At Crash Scene Near Highway 4 In Antioch

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) - A 28-year-old Antioch man was killed in a crash near state Highway 4 that was discovered early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP has identified the victim as Matthew Steven Reid.

The crash was discovered by a passing motorist who spotted a silver vehicle in a field near the highway, just east of Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch, and called 911 at 7:09 a.m.

CHP Lt. Mike Hagerman said it appears the vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was heading west on Highway 4 when the driver veered off the highway for unknown reasons.

The car went down an embankment and overturned, and Reid was ejected.

The Chevrolet landed on its wheels about 250 feet north of the highway, and when the CHP arrived at the scene this morning they found the man deceased next to the car, he said.

It is not known exactly what time the crash happened, and anyone who might have witnessed it is asked to call the CHP at (925) 646-4980.
