Man Fatally Shot In Hayward Identified
HAYWARD (BCN) -- A man who was found fatally shot in unincorporated Hayward on Thursday evening was identified Monday as 24-year-old Donald Ryan Haynes of Hayward, an Alameda County sheriff's sergeant said.
Deputies responded to the 21000 block of Garden Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports that there had been gunshots and a man was down, sheriff's Sgt. Dave Dickson said.
Haynes was found lying on his stomach in a pool of blood and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Dickson. Haynes would have turned 25 the next day.
Dickson said several witnesses reported seeing a newer model silver or gray Buick Lacrosse sedan near the area where Haynes was found, and told police that the vehicle sped away after shots were fired.
The sedan then traveled west on A Street in heavy traffic and ran a stoplight at Victory Street before continuing to Hesperian Boulevard, where it was last seen, Dickson said.
Witnesses said the car was being driven erratically, according to Dickson.
He said investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect or suspects responsible for Haynes' death.
"We have a few leads, but we could always use more," Dickson said.
He said several witnesses provided a partial license number for the car, and investigators are hoping more witnesses come forward so that the entire plate number can be identified.
