Man Ejected In Rollover Crash In Livermore Facing DUI Charges

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) -- A Livermore man is facing drunken driving charges following a rollover crash Friday evening that ejected the driver nearly 70 feet from where his vehicle came to rest, Livermore police Sgt. John Hurd said Saturday.

At around 7:30 p.m., Livermore police were dispatched to a major injury crash on Las Positas Road just west of the Plaza 580 shopping center.

Officers arrived at the scene and found that a Ford sedan driven by Marcos Garcia, 40, crossed over into the eastbound traffic lane and traveled off the roadway, Hurd said. Garcia's car then drove through a fence, rolled several times and finally came to a stop in a field, Hurd said.

Garcia was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt and was propelled from the vehicle at least 70 feet and over a six-foot fence before landing near a second fence on a driveway in the 4000 block of Las Positas Road, according to Hund.

Although he suffered major injuries, they are not considered life threatening, Hund said. He added that his injuries would have been less severe had be been properly restrained in the vehicle.

Garcia was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was cited and released on suspicion of driving under the influence, Hund said.

Las Positas Road was closed for several hours while the collision was investigated and the car was removed from the field.
