Man, Dog Die In Vallejo Mobile Home Fire
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A man and his dog died Thursday morning in a fire at a Vallejo mobile home park, a fire spokesman said.
The fire at a double-wide mobile home at the Vallejo Mobile Estates at 129 San Miguel Road was reported just before 8 a.m., Vallejo fire spokesman Mark Libby said.
Crews arrived and found the front of the home engulfed in flames, he said.
Firefighters started to extinguish the blaze when they were told there was someone in a back bedroom, he said.
Crews used a chainsaw to make a hole along the side of the building and pulled out an unconscious man.
Emergency crews immediately started performing CPR on the man—believed to be in his 60s—and he was taken to the hospital, Libby.
He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, Libby said.
A dog also perished in the fire despite resuscitation efforts, according to Libby.
The man was living alone with his dog in the unit, which was a complete loss, Libby said.
Vallejo Mobile Estates manager Mike Mcallister said the resident, who he didn't know personally, had lived at the mobile home park since 1982.
The man's dog was small and white, possibly a cockapoo, Mcallister said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and does not appear to be suspicious, Libby said.
No other injuries were reported. No other homes were damaged.
