Oakley Man Dies After Shooting Outside Home
OAKLEY (BCN) - A 41-year-old man who was shot during what appears to have been a domestic dispute in Oakley on Sunday morning died from his injuries around noon Monday, Oakley police Chief Bani Kollo said.
His name was not being released Monday afternoon because officials were still confirming that all of his family members had been notified, Kollo said.
The victim had been staying at a woman's house on Carol Lee Lane. He stepped outside around 7:45 a.m. Sunday and was allegedly shot by the woman's estranged husband, 39-year-old Eric Landry, who had allegedly been lying in wait, officials said.
Initial reports indicated that the victim appeared to have been shot twice, including once in the head, police said.
Landry's estranged wife called 911, and police found Landry inside the home with a gun when they arrived, police said.
Officers called for the sheriff's SWAT team, but Landry surrendered before the SWAT unit arrived, police said.
Landry's estranged wife was not hurt, Kollo said.
The victim was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center.
Family members were with him when he died, Kollo said.
Kollo said he did not know the nature of the relationship between Landry's estranged wife and the victim, but said the shooting appeared to be a domestic incident.
Landry had moved out of the house and was staying in Brentwood.
According to court records, Landry has no prior criminal record in Contra Costa County.
