Man Convicted In 2008 Rapes, Assaults In Hayward
HAYWARD (CBS / AP) -- A man has been convicted of raping and assaulting women who were walking alone in Alameda County.
32-year-old Damon Williams was on trial for allegedly committing three rapes and one assault in Hayward between February and October of 2008.
A jury found Williams guilty Tuesday of 10 counts, including rape and assault. But jurors deadlocked on four remaining counts involving two attacks, so the judge declared a mistrial on those charges.
During the trial, the defense suggested that at least one of the sexual encounters may have been consensual.
Williams faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced July 1.
Investigators have said they believe he's responsible for at least three more attacks, but those alleged victims couldn't be found or didn't want to come forward.
