Man Charged In San Jose Walmart Rampage Delays Plea
SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- A man accused of crashing his car into a Wal-Mart store in San Jose and then attacking shoppers delayed entering a plea Wednesday as prosecutors seek to combine the case with another incident in December.
Haamid Ade Zaid is being held without bail after being charged with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon and other charges for allegedly crashing into the Wal-Mart Easter Sunday, getting out of his car and swinging a metal bar at people.
Police said the 33-year-old Zaid hit four people in the store, including a 61-year-old employee who was hospitalized with head injuries.
Zaid was eventually subdued by bystanders.
The San Jose Mercury News reported that prosecutors have filed a motion to consolidate the case with a Dec. 16 incident where Zaid allegedly ran a red light, was involved in a crash and crashed into a gas station.
