Man Arrested In Redwood City Credit Union Robbery
BELMONT (CBS SF) - A transient was arrested Wednesday in Belmont in connection with a bank robbery in Redwood City the day before, a Redwood City police lieutenant said Thursday.
Carmen Joseph Polito, 31, allegedly robbed the Provident Credit Union at 210 Redwood Shores Parkway on Tuesday around 2:20 p.m., Lt. Sean Hart said.
The suspect approached a teller and handed a note demanding money, Hart said.
He then went to a second teller and verbally demanded cash, he said.
The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, Hart said.
Hart said an investigation led police to Polito being the main suspect, and police alerted other San Mateo County law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for him.
A Belmont police officer spotted Polito and stopped him in the area of Ralston Avenue and U.S. Highway 101 on Wednesday at about 5 p.m., he said.
The officer alerted Redwood City police and officers responded to the area and arrested Polito, according to Hart.
Officers recovered money and the demand note believed to be from the robbery during the arrest, Hart said.
"It looks pretty incriminating," Hart said.
Anyone with information about Polito or the robbery is asked to call Redwood City police at (650) 780-7697.
