Man Arrested In Home Invasion Robbery, Assault Of Elderly SF Woman

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the attack of a 79-year-old woman during a home invasion robbery in San Francisco's Portola neighborhood on the morning of May 27, police said.

Police arrested San Francisco resident Sandie Harden when investigators found his DNA at the crime scene, positively identifying him as a suspect in the crime.

The attack on May 27 was reported around 11:45 a.m. at a home in the 200 block of Gaven Street, police said.

The elderly victim heard a knock on the front door of her home and when she opened the door, two suspects forced their way inside. The suspects threw her to the ground and demanded money, police said.

A third suspect entered the residence shortly after the first two suspects, according to police.

The suspects forced the victim into her bedroom and went through her belongings. As two suspects ransacked the room, the third suspect grabbed the victim by the throat and ripped the gold chains from her neck, police said.

The suspects forced the victim into the garage area where they rummaged through cabinets.

When the victim called out for help, the suspects fled the residence, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital after complaining of neck pain, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

The suspects were described as three men believed to be in their early to mid-20s, police said.

Officers from the San Francisco Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the house, collected evidence and arrested one of the three male suspects.

Harden was positively identified as a suspect and taken into custody on suspicion of robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and burglary, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
