Fremont Man Arrested In Road Rage Cane Beating
FREMONT (CBS SF) - A man was arrested in Fremont on Monday after he allegedly beat another man with an elderly woman's cane, police said.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a fight at Stevenson and Fremont boulevards at 1:45 p.m. that day.
Police learned that the two men, both in their 20s, had been driving on Interstate Highway 880 and the victim had honked at the suspect while they were exiting the freeway at Stevenson Boulevard.
The suspect then followed the victim, police said. They stopped their cars and got out, and a confrontation ensued.
The suspect began assaulting the victim, and when the victim's elderly mother tried to assist her son, the suspect took her walking cane and used that to beat the victim, according to police.
The victim's injuries were minor, police said.
The suspect, identified as Abdullah Esmaeilzadeh, 22, of Fremont, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
