Arrest Made In SF's Lower Haight Burning-Car Death
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / AP / BCN) -- A man was in custody for allegedly killing a woman and then burning her body in a car in San Francisco's Lower Haight neighborhood, police said Tuesday.
Almon Johnson, 29, was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Vanessa Herrera. Her charred body was found Monday morning in the passenger seat of a two-door gray Pontiac illegally parked in the 400 block of Rose Street.
Although Johnson was arrested in San Francisco, investigators said they believed the murder actually occurred in Sacramento, where the 23-year-old Herrera is from.
"(The body) was driven here and then set ablaze," SFPD Officer Eric Chiang said.
Police indicated that Johnson has family ties in both Sacramento and San Francisco, but investigators would not disclose the relationship between Johnson and Herrera.
