Man Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer Inside Belmont Coffee Shop
BELMONT (CBS SF) -- A man who assaulted a peace officer inside a Belmont coffee shop was restrained and arrested on Sunday afternoon, according to police.
About noon on Sunday, police received multiple 911 calls reporting that a man was yelling at traffic near the intersection of El Camino Real and Ralston Avenue in Belmont.
As officers responded to the scene, additional callers reported to police that the man was in a physical altercation with another male subject near Peet's Coffee & Tea, police said.
Officers arrived at the scene and attempted to talk with the suspect, identified as 41-year-old San Carlos resident Karl Singer, police said.
Singer was acting hostile and aggressive, police said.
Belmont police officers and San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies physically restrained Singer after he kicked an officer.
One officer sustained minor injuries, according to police.
Singer was transported to a nearby hospital for a minor cut he received while attempting to fight off officers, police said.
Police arrested Singer and booked him into San Mateo County Jail for assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.
The subject involved in the fight with Singer had left the scene prior to the arrival of police. Officers would like to interview the subject as part of their investigation.
The subject was described as a white man wearing a dark jacket, dark pants, and a red, gold and green Rastafarian-style beanie, police said.
Witnesses are urged to contact police at (650) 595-7400 or may do so anonymously at (650) 598-3000.
