Man Arrested After Shooting Himself In Girlfriend's Marin City Apartment With 4 Kids Inside
MARIN CITY (CBS SF) -- A Richmond man was arrested after he shot himself in his girlfriend's Marin City apartment where four young children were present, a Marin County sheriff's lieutenant said.
Sheriff's deputies went to the apartment on Cole Drive around 10:25 p.m. Saturday in response to a report of someone shooting himself in the leg, Lt. Jamie Scardina said.
Shaun Israel Joseph, 34, told deputies he was standing on a patio when a bullet struck him in the leg, Scardina said.
Deputies found him on the floor inside the apartment near a bullet hole in the floor and bullet fragments, Scardina said.
The bullet hit Joseph in the genital area and he was taken to Marin General Hospital, Scardina said.
Deputies believe Joseph shot himself when he was putting the gun in his waistband, Scardina said. The gun was not recovered.
Other deputies had been in the area of the apartment minutes earlier and did not hear gunshots outside, Scardina said.
There were four children between 6 and 9 years old in the apartment, and Joseph was booked in the Marin County Jail for child endangerment, willful discharge of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a weapon and ammunition and violating his parole, Scardina said.
He is being held under $150,000 bail.
