Man Arrested After Shooting At Police Officer In Antioch
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) - A 19-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting at a police officer near the Contra Costa County fairgrounds in Antioch Thursday morning, police said.
Around 10:50 a.m., officers tried to stop a car reportedly occupied by a male carrying a gun in the 1600 block of Sycamore Drive, according to police.
The driver sped away, sparking a brief chase in which he attempted to ram a police patrol car and crashed into two other vehicles in his way, police said.
Police said the suspect then stopped and exited the car, pulled out a gun and shot at an officer in a patrol car just behind him.
The man missed the officer, who then drove into the suspect, sending him to the ground and knocking the gun out of his hand, according to police.
The suspect ran from the scene but was caught by officers about a half-mile away at the county fairgrounds.
Police said officers arrested the suspect, identified as Daveion Corneilious of Antioch, on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, evading police officers and related weapons offenses.
No officers or members of the public were injured and Corneilious suffered only minor injuries in the incident, according to police.
Police said the suspect has a short criminal history as an adult and was out on felony bail in connection with a March burglary arrest.
