Man Arrested After 6-Hour Gilroy Standoff

GILROY (CBS SF) - A wanted parolee was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a more than six-hour standoff with police at a home in Gilroy.

Anthony "Torpedo" Villalobos, a 36-year-old transient, was arrested at a home in the 800 block of Welburn Avenue around 10:30 p.m., police said.

He initially tried to evade officers who were looking for him on a no-bail felony parole violation and other warrants by fleeing into the home of an acquaintance, police said.

The standoff began at about 3:50 p.m., and officers established a perimeter around the residence. More than six hours later, negotiators were able to talk him into coming out of the home, police said.

Villalobos was taken into custody and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on his outstanding warrants as well as new charges of resisting arrest and weapons violations.

Officers from the Gilroy-Morgan Hill joint SWAT team, United Narcotic Enforcement Team, Gilroy-Morgan Hill Hostage Negotiation Team and Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office assisted.
