Man Accused In Series Of SF Sex Assaults To Stand Trial
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man accused of sexually assaulting three women in separate incidents along San Francisco's 24th Street corridor in 2011 was ordered by a judge Monday to stand trial on two dozen felony charges.
Frederick Dozier, 32, allegedly committed the violent attacks June 17 near 24th Street and South Van Ness Avenue, on Nov. 18 near 24th Street and Potrero Avenue, and on Dec. 8 near 24th and Fair Oaks streets.
The crimes prompted public outcry and a community meeting attended by hundreds of people.
Dozier was arrested Jan. 6 and faced 26 counts in a preliminary hearing that started earlier this month and finished this morning, when San Francisco Superior Court Judge Bruce Chan ordered him held for trial on all but two of the charges.
The charges include attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, attempted rape, forcible oral copulation and other sexual assault charges, prosecutors said.
In each case, the victim was attacked from behind by the suspect, who then pulled them to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted and robbed them, prosecutors said.
A tip to investigators led to Dozier being identified as the alleged attacker and his DNA was later matched with evidence found at the crime scenes, police said.
Dozier also allegedly confessed to the crimes while being questioned by investigators, according to a police inspector who testified during the preliminary hearing.
The two charges dismissed Monday by Chan were one count each of kidnapping and assault with the intent to commit rape, but Dozier still faces multiple similar charges related to the other attacks.
Dozier was employed as a part-time nutrition services worker with San Francisco Unified School District and also worked for Green Streets, a janitorial services company that operates at low-income housing complexes including Bernal Dwellings on Cesar Chavez Street, where he was arrested.
He also wrote a bizarre and rambling message on his Facebook page the day after the latest attack.
In a post on his Facebook profile at 5:15 a.m. on Dec. 9, Dozier wrote, "just can't see how ... you can be with someone that you care for that you would do everything for right but you make a fatal move that can make thing (sic) all bad and thing (sic) will never go back to be the same so real about the one you with keep it soild (sic) and be a real a woman or male in the realationship (sic)."
Dozier remains in custody under no bail and faces life in prison if convicted of all counts. He will return to court May 29 for formal arraignment on the charges.
