Man, 92-Year Old Mother Hospitalized After 1 Of 2 Hayward Fires
HAYWARD (KCBS)— The Hayward Fire Department responded to two separate fires early Saturday morning.
Fire Captain Thor Paulson said the first was a house fire at 3:42 a.m. on A Street. The fire badly injured a 60-year-old man and his 92-year-old mother.
They were transferred to a local burn unit for treatment of injuries. The woman sustained critical burns.
KCBS' Bob Butler Reports:
Later, in the commercial area of town, firefighters responded to the 2300 block of Hansen Rd. where flames broke out about 5:40 a.m. behind a strip mall.
"The fire grew quite rapidly. It ended up being a two-alarm fire. Mutual aid was called," Paulson said.
The second fire was under control according to Paulson, but the investigation into the cause of both blazes was expected to last into the day.
