Make A Career Out Of Your Passion, Says San Francisco Health Care Admin
San Francisco students majoring in a health care-related program are expected to have many job opportunities upon graduation. Recent information from Glassdoor shows more than 5,300 open healthcare jobs in San Francisco and over 15,000 jobs within a 25-mile radius. But even as the local economy surges, Lynnette Johnson, Human Resources Manager for the award-winning Diablo Valley Oncology and Hematology Medical Group, says students should also invest time in job shadowing, volunteering or interning to gain valuable work experience.
What is your background and education?
"I received my Bachelor of Arts with a Business and Human Resource concentration from Simpson University and graduated with distinction from National University with a Master's of Business Administration, specializing in Organizational Leadership. I've been with Diablo Valley Oncology for four years and truly love my job. I'm fortunate to do what I love every day, for an organization with solid values and a compassionate heart for making a difference in people's lives."

What career advice can you share to students interested in a career in health care?
"Invest the time to job shadow or volunteer in various positions you may be interested in and even request an internship with the organization. This will help you narrow down specific positions and give you a better understanding of each role. Find something you're passionate about and make your career out of it. You will enjoy going to work every day, if you are able to do that. I encourage you to always advance your professional and personal growth through continuing education, conferences, seminars, etc. Success requires hard work and dedication; believe in yourself and put in the effort. Find an organization whose mission and values resonate with you and will offer a mutually beneficial relationship."
