Major League Baseball Takes Stand Against Discrimination Based On Sexual Orientation
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Major League Baseball is planning to announce a new zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The new agreement is seen as a clear stand against discrimination. According to Josh Steichmann with Equality California, the policy will receive a warm welcome.
"We know that they're promoting a professional environment and more athletes at all levels will feel comfortable coming out and by doing so demonstrate that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender athletes have the same drive to compete and dedication to their sports that their straight colleagues have," said Steichmann.

Most gay athletes have historically kept their sexual orientation hidden because of the policies and atmosphere in sports.
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said there is no place for discrimination in baseball.
"It is a good precedent to set and we hope to see basketball and hockey following in their footsteps," said Selig.
The agreement specifically prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and was written by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who also wrote a similar policy for the National Football League.
